We were telling you earlier that Toyota took the weekend’s practice test with flying colors for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. And now, they posted another video to showcase their racing Hybrid technology.
Every second counts on the race track and there are many devices that will help pilots shave them off from lap to lap, like the DRS (Drag Reduction System) on Formula 1 vehicles.
But if you really need a quick push when exiting a slow corner, you’ll need a system that boost the engine output for a short period of time, like a nitrous oxide system or even better, an electric motor.
The Toyota Racing TS030 HYBRID racing in the upcoming endurance race, is powered by an aspirated 530 hp V8 petrol engine helped by an electric motor, which can deliver up to 300 hp instantly to aid the combustion engine.
Electricity for the motor is harvested via the energy recovery system when braking in designated zones around the track, which is stored in a Nisshinbo super capacitor inside the cockpit.
