The fourth generation Toyota Prius won’t come around for at least another year, but the automaker has revealed some new details about the vehicle’s performance and design.
Toyota’s r&d group chief Soichiro Okudaira said this week that the upcoming Prius “will have a new type of hybrid system,” that will be more efficient. The gasoline engine is said to be 2 percent more thermal efficient and the engineers are pondering to fit the car with new lithium-ion batteries as opposed to current nickel-metal ones which are heavier.
Another big step forward is represented by the vehicle’s architecture. Following the Toyota New Global Architecture the vehicle will be lighter and the production costs will drop by using standardized components across the model range.
