Following the announcement of a mass recall in December last year, Toyota Saudi Arabia just started to recall the first batch of vehicles that may be affected by the sudden acceleration issue.
Beginning yesterday, the recall saw Lexus RX 350 owners first, and fitted their vehicles with brake override systems for free.
The recall will continue for around 400,000 vehicles of 10 different models. The ministry also held a meeting in order to discuss the conduction of an educational awareness campaign until all the vehicles will be equipped with the system, where drivers will learn how to handle sudden acceleration if it happens.
Saudi Arabia is the second country after the United States requiring the installation of the brake override system. Canada is pondering to apply for the same measures too.
