Japan's COTY jury gave the IQ a perfect ten after it conquered all of its jurors' hearts. The IQ won the contest by a mile, and left the runner-up trailing in its wake more than 300 votes away. The C5 only managed 223 votes, while the one placed on the 3rd place is the Nissan GT-R which managed 201 votes.
"I wish to thank my Toyota colleagues for giving me some slack and putting up with my one-track, head-strong mission to build a car like no other, the world's smallest four-seater, and that some self-indulgence on my part was necessary to achieve such an epoch-making vehicle," edmunds.com quoted IQ's chief engineer, Hiroki Nakajiama, as saying.
The IQ has incredible specs for a car its size. It offers seating for three adults and a child, 1 liter gasoline engine with a continuously variable transmission which only chucks out 99 g/km, and not to mention world class protection. Nakaiama stated that further developments are to come.
The Import Car of the Year ended up being the Citroen C5. It is a great achievement for Citroen because it faced tough competition from the “stiff” Audi A4.
As we stated before, the Most Advanced Technology award went to the fabulous Nissan GT-R supercar while the Most Fun prize was awarded to the Subaru Exiga. The Best Value prize went to the Honda Freed minivan.
The jury has 25 votes to “spare” which can be awarded to 5 vehicles. Each juror mush give 10 votes to his favorite car, before spending it's remaining 15 points among the rest of 4 cars. This year was full of surprises including the fact that when it came to make the list for the 10 best cars, the 10 ended up being 11. The list of finalist included: Toyota iQ, Nissan GT-R, Honda Freed, Mazda Atenza (Mazda 6), Subaru Exiga, Suzuki Wagon R, Daihatsu Tanto, Audi A4, Citroën C5, Fiat 500 and Jaguar XF.
