Toyota Rolling Enhanced Parking Aid System in 2015

About 30 percent of accidents resulting in property damage (and person injury) take place at low speeds when parking or departing due to limited visibility, rushing things or lack of experience. To help mitigate or even cut out such events, Toyota just unveiled two updated parking aid systems that will roll in next year.

Toyota relies on its Intelligence Clearance Sonar (ICS) to help drivers stick their cars into tight spots. The system basically “gives a hand” with the steering part while the driver will handle the footwork and lever switching. The system will also detect obstacles and apply the brakes for you in case you don’t notice it.

The upgraded ICS adds even more sensors to detect objects further away and will also apply the brakes if the driver misuses the pedal... say, like hitting the gas instead of the brake pedal.

Tight parking spaces requiring a lot of back and forth maneuvers won’t be a problem either, because the controller will detect that and steer you in or out at an optimum rate.

Along with the ICS, comes the Panoramic View Monitor, which now displays an overhead view of the vehicle on the navigation screen using four cameras placed in key areas on the car.

With the enhanced mode, de view can now be toggled to a see-through mode, which brings the point of view to the driver’s perspective while hiding the rest of the car. Close objects will be bigger to the eye now and you’ll also be able to locate it easier thanks to the perspective.

The upgrades are expected to come out on Toyota vehicles launched in 2015 and should probably find their way on Lexus models too. Check them at work in the videos and photos bellow.
