Few people know this, but the Lexus RX was first released in Japan in 1997 as the Toyota Harrier and exports only began one year later. Thanks to the success of the model, Toyota has seen fit to launch the third generation Harrier in its domestic market.
The luxury vehicle is basically identical to the 2013 RX, but it has its own design cues which we love. Like many Japanese cars these days, it has a plexiglass transparent grille, and also distinguishes itself with bold headlights.

There will be two engine choices available. The first one is a 2.0-liter DOGC four-cylinder available from December 2nd with 2WD and 4WD and a CVT. This is basically the same sort of engine you get on the RAV4 and has a maximum output of 151 PS (111 kW) and 193 Nm of torque. According to the JC08 Japanese cycle, fuel consumption is 16 km/l, equivalent to 6.2 l/100km.

From January 15th of next year, the Harrier will also be available as a hybrid. That version comes with 2.5-liter and electric motor that deliver a combined systemic output of 196 PS and 206 Nm. Despite only being available with E-Four all-wheel drive, the Harrier Hybrid will deliver much better fuel economy.

Prices start at JPY2,720,000 for the normal Harrier and at JPY3,610,000 for the Harrier Hybrid. If you want to know more, check out the official website.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
