Have an older Toyota Avalon? That sound system it comes equipped with could be hotter than you think. Literally!
The recall saga continues this year as well as Toyota just announced another voluntary recall because of a small engineering error that could set your Avalon on fire when having the boot stuffed with baggage.
It seems that the recall addresses around 52,000 Avalon sedan units in the US made from 2011 to 2012. Cargo inside the trunk can potentially come in contact with subwoofer wires in the trunk and in certain conditions can even rupture one.
As a consequence, the ruptured wire could come in contact with the metal frame of the subwoofer, causing a short circuit that can ultimately overheat the audio device and even start a fire.
There are no reports of injuries or deaths caused by the issue and Toyota said it will come up with a solution to cure the problem at no cost. As usual, owners of respective models will be notified to take their cars to the nearest dealership where skilled technicians will mend the issue.
