What does the air conditioning have to do with safety? It’s pretty simple - water droplets from the air conditioning condenser unit could leak onto the airbag control module, which could cause a short circuit. This could disable the air bags or even inadvertently deploy them.

Toyota will recall 803,000 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon hybrid and Venza models produced between 2012-2013 to check and fix the issue. Dealerships will apply sealant and install a cover to the air conditioning condenser unit housing seam located above the airbag control module.

Owners will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles. More information is available by accessing Toyota’s Recall webpage or calling Toyota Customer Experience at 1-800-331-4331.
