Toyota Recalls 22,000 Models on TPMS Issue

In an ideal world, where Toyota wouldn't have had to make the largest recall in the history of mankind last year (a recall which extended its ugly effects into 2011 as well), the following news wouldn't have deserved more than a quick look.

Of course, this is not the ideal world, and every other recall Toyota will make over the following years, regardless of the reason, will be compared or in some way linked to the one caused by the mysterious unintended acceleration issue.

The latest counter-performance achieved by Toyota's suppliers is the fact that they fitted some 20,000 of its vehicles with faulty tire pressure monitoring system. And by faulty we mean they don't do what they were supposed to do: warn the driver that one of the car's tires is dangerously close of getting rid of all of its inside air.

According to the report, the TMPS systems worked when the cars left the factory, but subsequently, when accessory wheels were fitted, the system were not calibrated to the new requirements. Easy problem, easy fix, at Toyota's expense.

Before we sign off though, we can't help from paying another visit to the ideal world we mentioned earlier. A world where the driver needed no damn system to tell him the tire on the front right side, for instance, is losing pressure. Or another system to tell him to keep to his lane... Or another to park the car for him... Or...
