Being the world’s best seller carmaker means that you have to produce more and ensure top notch quality. Still, due to the complex processes involved in manufacturing a modern day vehicle, some glitches may occur from time to time.
Like the last one that affects the Toyota Yaris (Vitz in Japan) and Verso-S (Ractis). Toyota is recalling 185,000 models produced between November 2010 to March 2012 due to a glitch in the electric power steering system.
It’s nothing dangerous, the worst thing it could happen is the steering becoming heavier. It seems that water droplets can form on certain wired in the steering control module, causing a short circuit and disabling the assisted steering. No accidents or injuries have been reported so far.
Toyota dealerships will replace the power steering control module free of charge. The repairs will take about two hours.
