Toyota Recall Reignites Whistleblower Claims

Not sure how many of you recall the events of last autumn, when a former Toyota employee, Dimitrios Biller, accused the Japanese carmaker of covering up and even destroying evidence regarding rollover accidents, but it appears the recent recall nightmare reignited the fire.

In a somewhat troubling news for Toyota, a House panel subpoenaed the confidential internal documents Biller claimed refer to the cover up. According to Autonews, the House Oversight Committee issued the subpoena as part of its investigation of Toyota's sudden acceleration investigation, which will culminate with the Congressional hearing on February 24.

The subpoena was issued to Dimitrios Biller, after last week Toyota won a temporary injunction from a court-appointed arbitrator, forcing Biller not to release the documents.

After the attorney who was reopening Toyota roll-over suits, Todd Tracy, backed out from the case, saying he did not see any type of concealment, destruction or pattern of discovery abuse from Toyota, Biller's case was taken over by Jeffrey Allen, who says he intends to comply with the subpoena.

"The injunction doesn't prevent Mr. Biller from complying with his legal obligations,” Allen said according to the source. “There is clear evidence that Toyota was withholding and destroying documents necessary in litigation and necessary to present to.”

If some type of concealment is proved by the documents, which will arrive to the House committee by February 23, all the problems which go with it will come down of Akio Toyoda's head, who accepted today to take part in the February 24 congressional hearing.
