Due to slow sales for the Tesla-powered RAV4 electric compact crossover, Toyota is offering it at a discount through a low-cost lease.
The automaker is promoting the RAV4 EV with a three-year lease of $299 per month, offer which is available from September 3rd only in Los Angeles and San Francisco regions.
"The use of our incentives is tactical, reinforcing our value and focus on keeping our products competitive in the market,” Toyota spokeswoman Carly Schaffner told Automotive News. "We're still evaluating the market demand for EVs."
Toyota’s RAV4 EV is the product of a unique collaboration between Tesla Motors and the Japanese automaker. The 154 hp (115 kW) electric powertrain enables the vehicle to reach 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 7 seconds and a maximum speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).
