Toyota Australia has doubled the towing capacity of the 2013 RAV4 equipped with a 2.2-liter D-4D turbo diesel engine. The SUV itself hasn't changed at all, but following approval from Japan, the mass that they consider is safe to tow has been increased.
Up until now, the RAV4 was rated at 500 kg of towing capacity for the automatic. But models sold from July onwards will have 1,000 of towing capacity for a braked trailer.

“Our engineers here in Australia have worked closely with their counterparts in Japan to secure this increase,” said Toyota Australia’s executive director of sales and marketing, Tony Cramb.
