Toyota Prius v Gets an Angry Face for 2015

Hide yo’ wife, hide yo’ kids, ‘cause the Prius has gone bonkers for 2015. Better get used to the idea all planet-saving cars are all “sporty” and mean-looking now as even the Prius v gentle giant will be frowning at you.

The Prius v (Prius+ in Europe) is getting the first facelift since its launch in 2012, following the same idea every automaker is implementing nowadays: sporty-looking, thin frowning headlights, vents, bigger trapezoidal vents, more vents and more sharp edges.

Don’t worry, despite the looks, your 2015 Toyota Prius v will be powered by the same 1.8-liter VVT-i gasoline unit aided by an electric motor inside the gearbox. It’s true it has been slightly improved to comply with new Euro 6 emission regulations, but don’t get your hopes too high for pulling a burnout.

Mechanically, the 2015 Prius v will be the same plus a retuned suspension for improved ride. Last time we drove a Prius, we were pleased with the ride, so things must be getting extra comfortable now. Moreover, the engineers introduced some extra insulating materials for a quieter interior.

Speaking of the cabin, changes here include a dark silver metallic finish for the driver’s switchgear and the air conditioning dial control, chromed door handles and slim-line air vents, a new 4.2-inch color TFT information screen. The old infotainment display was the weak link of the cabin, so we're glad things have changed.

Toyota's Prius has always covered more than just the eco propulsion, aiming to connect with the driver in a green way. This upgrade thus comes with a little game called Eco Judge, which awards one points for driving in an efficient manner. By the way, we've seen the scheme used by multiple automakers, such as Mercedes or Nissan.

Standard features include the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system (in Europe), Bluetooth and reversing camera, while the optionals list offers the sat nav, live traffic information, Park Assist, electric seats, hill start assist and more.

Prices and full specs are still to be announced when the new model goes on sale, but Toyota hasn't specified the exact schedule.
