It’s hardly a surprise that the Toyota Prius is the top selling hybrid in the world as it has had a chance to make a name for itself for over 15 years and is now in its 3rd generation - the best one yet. Whenever somebody mentions the word ‘hybrid’, it generates an image of a Prius in everybody’s mind, so it has the upper hand in its market sector.
Toyota shifted 1,654 units in April, while last month the Prius had ‘its best ever month’ since it came to the States in 2000, with sales having climbed by 54% compared to the pervious year’s record. Chevrolet, came a close second behind the Prius with 1,462 of its Volts sold. Its followed by the all-electric Nissan Leaf of which 370 units were bought in April.

Toyota is experiencing an increase in the demand of its ‘Prius Family’, of which it sold a total of 25,168 cars all over the world in April, with an increase of 126.9% compared to April 2011, thus they are definitely on the way with achieving or even surpassing their sales expectations for the current year. All-in-all, Toyota has a combined sales figure of both Toyota-badged and Lexus-badged hybrids of 32,593 units this month.
