Toyota Prius Brake Issues Surface

If proved to be true, the following story may turn out to be one of the final nails in Toyota's coffin: in the Japan and the US, over 100 Toyota Prius owners filed complaints about the vehicles brakes. The Prius, one of the leading vehicles in Toyota's line-up, has so far escaped the recall which battered Toyota in the last months.

According to DetNews, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received about 100 complaints involving the brakes of the Prius, with at least two of them involving crashes which resulted in injuries.

In Japan, 14 complaints have been received since July last year, including an accident in July 2009, which resulted in two injuries. The rest of the incidents happened in December 2009 and January 2010, about the same time when the Toyota braking issues became public.

"The Prius driver in the accident told police that a brake did not work. Other Prius drivers also complained brakes were not so sharp,"
Japanese transport ministry official Masaya Ota told the source. As a result, Ota ordered Toyota to investigate the problems. Toyota replied it is already looking into the matter.

It is not clear at this point how many of the complaints received related to the Prius really refer to an actual problem. With all the debate stirred by Toyota's recall, is only natural for people to feel afraid in their Toyotas, but this doesn't mean the problem, at least in Prius' case, is real.
