Toyota Prius Anniversary Host Announced

Japanese manufacturer Toyota announced today the winner of its 10 Years of Toyota Prius Anniversary Celebration competition which kicked off on Facebook in August. The winner, Martin Esquenazi, will get the chance to host the Prius Anniversary Celebration on October 10, 2010 in Malibu, California.

The event which takes place this weekend will include everything from music to workshops. American architect Eric Lloyd Wright will be delivering speeches about sustainability and architecture, while WIRED Magazine will host a gadget lab featuring some of the most innovative green technologies available.

Outstanding in the Field will be in charge of outdoor meals from the local markets, while SHFT.com will be responsible for the artistic side of the event. A new media platform, developed by actor Adrian Grenier, film producer Peter Glatzer and sustainability design expert Lauren Gropper will be set up to offer original video series and curated shopping.

But most importantly, Toyota will give those attending a preview of the currently-under-testing Prius plug-in hybrid, as well as a quick intro into what the carmaker calls the "Prius Family" of vehicles.

The 10th anniversary of the Prius is however dedicated to the US market. The hybrid has been on sale in Japan since 1997, being the world's first mass produced hybrid and becoming in a very short time the best selling Toyota in its home country. In July 2010, the Prius became the best selling vehicle of any make in Japan for the 14th consecutive month.

Currently, Toyota is planning a new line of hybrids which will likely wear the Prius badge to set them apart from the ICE-powered cars.
