Toyota Prius Accelerator Problems

After announcing an over-8-million-car recall worldwide, it would be an understatement to say that Toyota had a lot of fixing to do. The Japanese automaker needed to address the accelerator pedal problems on some of the models in its range and the braking issues on the Prius as soon as possible and hope that its clients will not lose trust in the brand and its commitment to quality.

Though it seemed that the tough days were over, things are not looking good at all. Apparently, there has been a report which states that a Toyota Prius, which was believed to only have problems with its braking, got its accelerator stuck on an US highway.

This was Toyota’s official statement regarding the incident: “This afternoon (Monday, March 8), Toyota learned of a report that a California Highway Patrol (CHP) unit was dispatched in response to a 911 call from a motorist driving a Prius on Interstate 8 in San Diego County who said the accelerator pedal was stuck."

“The report states that the CHP unit slowed in front of the vehicle and acted as a brake to bring it to a stop. Toyota has dispatched a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the report and offer assistance.”

Things just keep on getting from bad to worst for the Japanese car manufacturer. A short while ago, the carmaker posted its February sales, with numbers showing an 8.7 percent drop as compared to the same month of 2009. And remember, February 2009 was not a good month either. All in all, Toyota sold 100,027 vehicles in the US.
