After teasing us with their “exciting new concept
that brings the Hybrid System-Racing technology to the road” last week, Toyota has published the first complete photo with the Hybrid-R concept to be featured at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Based on the three-door Yaris model, the Hybrid-R all-wheel supermini is powered by a 1.6-liter GRE engine developed by Toyota Motorsport and two powerful electric motors. The vehicle also features technology sourced from the Toyota TS030 Hybrid Le Mans race car, including a super capacitor for the energy that’s recovered under braking.
Toyota says the Yaris Hybrid-R is “a highly focused machine designed to deliver the maximum driving pleasure, both on road and track”, and that makes us even more anxious to find out more about the car at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
In addition to previewing the Yaris Hybrid-R, Toyota announced plans to show its latest Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle technology at Frankfurt. As a reminder, the automaker wants to launch a hydrogen-powered production car by 2015.
