Toyota came third this year in the main WEC race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but it managed to stamp its authority on the visceral Nurburgring 24-hour classic, gaining a total of four class victories this weekend.
The company brought three souped up competitors for this year’s Green Hell endurance race - a GT 86, a Lexus LFA and the amazing LFA Code X. As until now, president Akio Toyoda was present in the race, holding a key position into the team’s road to success and also exemplifying the company’s belief that putting its vehicles and people through challenges will contribute to the development of better products.

Tuned by GAZOO, the GT 86 coupe mashed its rivals in the SP3 class, while the LFA Code X topped the SP-PRO category and finished 11th overall, only two spots ahead of the other LFA that dominated the SP8 class.

Another victory came from Toyota Swiss Racing team that won in the V3 class for the third consecutive time, taking the first two spots with its TMG-tuned GT 86 coupes.

It’s the eight time the GAZOO Racing team competed in the 24 hours event at the Nurburgring, fact that played an important role in the development of Toyota’s latest generation vehicles. The Nordschleife is 20.8 km (12.9 mile) long, has 156 turns and elevation changes of over 300 meters (984 ft), representing every automaker’s ultimate proving ground for its cars.
