Toyota Ponders Badging the Production FCV as a Prius

The Toyota FCV showed this year at the Tokyo Motor Show previews a future production hydrogen-powered vehicle the automaker said to put out in 2015. It’s street name was not decided yet but Toyota included the Prius nameplate among the options.
“We haven’t totally decided on a name, but it’ll be interesting to see if we can  leverage the Prius name or not,” Toyota marketing executive Bill Fay told AutoGuide. “We’ve been debating that a lot within the company.”

People consider the Prius as a positive thing regarding technology and eco-friendliness. The automaker almost made it a sub brand by increasing its model offer to four vehicles. The addition of a hydrogen powered vehicle in the Prius range can have positive results as Fay explained.

“Potentially it really has a lot of positives similar to the Prius. When we launched the Prius over ten years ago, everyone was like ‘what is this thing?’ and now we’ve sold five million hybrids.”
