Toyota Planning New Brand for China

Just like some other brands in the industry, Japanese manufacturer Toyota is planning to create an entirely new brand that will be in charge with building and selling small cars in China. After General Motors, Honda and Nissan, Toyota is the fourth big name rumored to develop a new brand for China, while voices familiar with the matter hint that Ford could do the same in the near future.

Not much is known, about Toyota's plans, as the Japanese manufacturer has remained tightlipped on its intentions to create a new brand, but a report by China Car Times shows that the company wants to use its local Guangzhou - Toyota joint venture for establishing the new company.

General Motors has already launched the BaoJun brand in China, a whole new company that will be responsible for selling affordable models on the local market. Furthermore, the company has already presented the first model to be sold under the new badge, the BaoJun 630 expected to go on sale anytime this year.

As for Toyota, it seems like intentions to establish a new brand in China have been expressed since two years ago, but plans have been put on hold for a yet to be disclosed reason. Toyota however could launch the new brand as soon as 2012, soon after Honda will do the same thing. It's yet unknown what models is Toyota planning to sell under the new badge, but more information will probably emerge in the near future as we get closer to a possible launch date of the brand.
