After we’ve found out that the Toyota GT 86 Open was put on hold indefinitely, there are some rumors claiming that the Japanese automaker is mulling the 86 by planning a sporty sedan based on it.
Sources close to Toyota told Motoring Australia that the Japanese automaker has green light for an 86-based sedan, designed for mid-aged customers who were fans of the Corolla AE 86, Nissan Silvia, Mazda RX-8 or Honda S2000.
Details are scarce and all we know is that the sedan will have a 100mm longer wheelbase than the current GT 86 sportscar and that it will wear Toyota’s Keen Look design. Power may come from the 200 hp 2-liter boxer engine and it could also be offered with the upcoming Hybrid R drive system we saw at this year Frankfurt Motor Show.
