Toyota has joined the other carmakers and revealed its end-of-year figures. Just like in most of the other cases, 2015 also marked record production for the Japanese carmaker with 2,035,028 vehicles and 1,933,702 engines produced in North America.
The record production numbers are due to low fuel prices, a healthier economy and strong customer demand for Corolla, Camry, RAV4 and Tacoma.
Also, in the previous year, production locations throughout the entire North America celebrated various events: Kentucky honored the first "U.S. built" Lexus, after a $360 million investment and around 750 new employees, while Texas' factory began production of the all-new Tacoma in San Antonio.
In Indiana, the 4 millionth vehicle was built, and Alabama constructed its 4 millionth engine. While Mississippi delivered its 500,000th Corolla, in Mexico, Toyota's assembly plant from Baja California began a three-shift operation to cope with the high demand for the new Tacoma. Mazda also rolled into production the new Scion iA and Yaris in Salamanca, Guanajuato.
The current year is very important for the Japanese automaker, because it marks the anniversaries for the Cambridge and Kentucky factories, both turning 30 years old. Indiana and West Virginia turn 20, Alabama 15 and Mississippi, the most recently built, turns 5.
North America is a crucial market for Toyota as the company produces no less than 14 models here, including the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, RAV4, Scion iA, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Lexus RX350 and ES350, Venza and Yaris.
According to Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America, "Our products are a direct reflection of our team members' dedication and talent. Each vehicle that rolls off the line is an example of our commitment to safety, quality, value and above all our relentless focus to exceed customers' expectations."
After some years of struggling, the automotive market seemed to revive in 2015 as a lot of automakers also registered record sales in the previous year. For example, Ford Motor Company's total U.S. sales are its best annual results in nine years, making it America's best-selling brand. Ford also set sales records in China, where it sold no less than 1,115,124 vehicles in 2015.
