Toyota On Its Way to Conquer Indian Market

Following India’s fast growing economy, the global car giant Toyota Motor Corporation is considering launching more small cars and compact SUVs to gain leadership in the local market.

However, the Japanese company will have to wait the Indian government to release its vehicle policies, such as those for fuel and import, in order to choose between laying a new diesel engine plant there or launching hybrids.

"In the long term, we need to have a diesel engine manufacturing plant in India but the lack of clear cut direction in auto fuel policy is something we need to watch out for. We need to see which way India is going," Toyota Managing Officer Satoshi Ohiso said in an interview.

With the Prius being the only hybrid model launched by Toyota in India, the automaker will try to bring more contemporary global products to keep up with the customers demands.
