You know how they say - “if you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough”. And here you have the perfect example illustrating both premises of that saying in about 5 seconds or so.
Having a transversally rear mid-mounted engine that evenly distributes the weight over the axles, makes a Toyota MR2 pretty stable and, unless it has some mechanical problems, you have to pretty much be a racing noob to crash it.
How can you achieve maximum noob points is perfectly depicted in the video bellow. It appears that all you need to do is exit a corner on full throttle while your front wheels are nowhere near forward position.
Then forget to counter-steer and ease off the gas when the rear end starts to slide and boom - the rail guard is all yours to hit and trash the little roadster in a cloud of dust.
Luckily, MR2 parts are pretty abundant and cheap, but you’ll also have to pay for the damage you did to the track, as Nurburgring’s regulations imply.
As with the toughness part, the driver seems to be allright and we hope he now knows how to treat a rear-wheel-drive car on the track in the future. We're happy it wasn't a 2000GT. Maybe the driver is too...
