Oh, and since we're touching marketing-related gimmicks, you probably remember Toyota paying $1 billion to promote the Mirai fuel-cell car at the 2020 Olympics.

Regardless, the big news all fans expected was Mirai's launch in the United States. Although it was imminent, Mirai's debut in American dealerships was still a pressing matter of time, mainly due to the controversy it triggered. Yes, we're talking about you, Elon Musk.

What you need to know is that Toyota will bring the Mirai in California first in October, with only eight dealers in and around Los Angeles and San Francisco being the privileged to sell the Toyota Mirai.

So before jumping into your old car and heading to the nearest Toyota dealership, you'll want to know which ones can sell you the Mirai, right?

Of course, so here's where Golden State drivers can gen acquainted with the car: San Francisco Toyota, Roseville Toyota, Stevens Creek Toyota or Toyota of Sunnyvale. Farther south, Longo Toyota, Toyota Santa Monica, Toyota of Orange and Tustin Toyota

In addition, Toyota has a little surprise for those customers not willing to wait until October: they can request a Mirai by visiting www.toyota.com/mirai. However, be advised as Toyota will place vehicles 'with select, eligible customers', due to the car's limited production (sales volume is planned for approximately 3,000 units through 2017).

Word of advice: if you badly want one, move quick and make your requests early to save a potential parking spot in transportation history.
