Remember this funky little car? It’s the Toyota ME.WE, a visionary concept for a lighter and more affordable environmental car made by Toyota European Design & Development in collaboration with renowned designer jean-Marie Massaud. If you haven’t seen yet, your next chance to get in touch with it will be at the London Design Museum this month.
Toyota just announced that the ME.WE concept has been nominated for the “Design of the Year 2014” show at London’s Design Museum, an event that gather together a year of cutting-edge innovation and original talent, showcasing the very best in global Architecture, Digital Fashion, Furniture, Graphic, Product and Transport design.

The exhibition will start March 26 and will be held open until August 25, so if you fancy design, you’ll have a whole spring and summer to get there and see the latest trends in the matter.

ME.WE reflects a simultaneous concern for personal wellbeing (ME) and the wellbeing of others (WE), summarizing the identity of a route to freedom that is desirable to each and responsible for all.

The EV is made out of an aluminum tubular chassis, on which customizable expanded polypropylene body panels are attached. Propelling the car are four electric motors, one on each wheel, all sucking from a battery mounted right under the floor. The whole car weighs 750 kg and the rear luggage space can be extended to form a platform, while rear seats can fold down and slide right under the front ones.
