This year marks the 16th anniversary since the first Toyota Prius rolled out from the factory, a true milestone in hybrid technology research
Since then, the Japanese automaker has sold more than 5.5 million hybrids, with a current portfolio of 23 models, four times more than any competitor.

According to their calculations, Toyota estimated that its global hybrid fleet has saved 12 billion liters of fuel and the atmosphere was spared of 34 million tones of CO2 emissions.

And the story doesn’t stop here, as the automaker will introduce 16 new or revised hybrid models by 2015, while it is also working intense on fuel cell hybrid vehicle technology, which we will be able to see at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Enhancing its commitment, TMC also brought its hybrid technology to the race track by returning in 2012 to endurance racing with the hybrid LMP1 car.
