Toyota Launching New A-Segment Car in the Philippines

Following the launch of the new Corolla Altis, Toyota seems to have another ace in its sleeve, as it will introduce an entirely new hatch model in the Philippines.

Toyota Motor Philippines is set to launch the Wigo hatchback in February. Jointly developed with Daihatsu, the hatchback will be aimed at the Indonesian/Philippino low-cost green segment and it will not be charged for luxury.

The city-hatch Toyota Wigo will follow the automaker’s classic one-box template with large headlamps, tall windows and some other styling cues from models like Echo and Yaris. Inside, it will feature standard on-DIN or two-DIN audio systems with multiple connectivity, power windows and mirrors as well as other niceties that don’t normally come as standard for a car in this class.

Power will come from a 1-liter inline-three gasoline unit making 64 hp and 86 Nm of torque, which will probably allow for a 20 km/L fuel economy. The engine will be available with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox.
