Toyota Launches Verso D-Cat 150 Automatic

As were telling you a few months ago when we reported on the MPV pricing for the third-generation seven-seater, a new engine configuration has recently joined the Verso lineup. The Japanese automaker has released its new version of the Verso, fitted with a 2.2 D-CAT 150 clean diesel engine. Moreover, we were then reporting that the D-CAT diesel engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a Multidrive S unit.

Nevertheless, it seems that Toyota fitted its latest addition to the range with a six-speed automatic transmission, which adapts its shift pattern automatically in line with individual driving style and driving conditions.

According to the manufacturer, the system also has a Sport mode, and the driver can also opt to make manual gear shifts, using the shift lever or paddle controls on the steering wheel, for a more engaging drive.

The powertrain, shared with Avensis, features all the distinctive characteristics of Toyota’s Optimal Drive technologies, to increase fuel economy and reduce carbon emissions. The engine develops a maximum power of 148bhp at 3,600rpm, while the maximum torque of 340Nm is available from 2,000rpm.

The car can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in about 10 seconds, official combined cycle fuel economy is 41.5mpg and CO2 emissions are 178g/km. Toyota’s D-CAT system also features a four-way catalyst and maintenance-free particulate filter.

There are two trim levels available for the 2.2 D-CAT 150 automatic, both coming with standard 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Verso TR Toyota Optimal Drive 2.2 D-CAT 150 6AT is priced at £20,835 ($34,380), while the Verso T Spirit Toyota Optimal Drive 2.2 D-CAT 150 6AT model is priced at £22,265 ($36,750).
