Since Renault currently have the small electric quadricycle market sector covered all on their own, with the excellent Twizy EV, the world leader in the production of ‘green’ cars could not back down, and so, they have launched the COMS.
It costs between 668,000 and 798,000 yen (€6,700 - €8,000) and its first official use will be as a delivery vehicle, for the Japanese branch of the Seven-Eleven retail chain which should have 200 of them in use by September, and 300 by the end of next year.

First shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the COMS is identical in concept to the Twizy, with the same seating layout, 405 kg weight, and an electric motor driving the rear wheels.

However, the COMS will never match the Twizy in terms of performance, as the Japanese offering is 10 hp down on the French car’s 17 hp output. This lack of power will definitely make the COMS less fun to drive, as some have complained that the Twizy could have used a little bit more oomph. It’s also 20 km/h (12.5 mph) slower, reaching a top speed of only 60 km/h (38 mph).
