OK, we saw a hoard of modified Toyotas trying their luck in the dirfting world so far. Some were sleepers, others were classic AE 86s or Supras, but none of them was an SUV. Not until now...
The Middle East Motor Tuning Show this year gathered a lot of interesting cars in the UAE. It was held at the Expo Centre Sharjah and an outdoor ‘drifting’ competition was also organized there by Top Speed Performance. We said ‘drifting’ because it was nothing too serious to be classified as drifting, but more as some short controlled slides and doughnuts.
Now, the cool thing about this short drift session wast the fact that there was a guy who brought a Toyota Land Cruiser to do a show there. As you can imagine, drifting a 4x4 SUV is not that easy, mainly due to the all-wheel-drive part, but this guy seems to have sorted that out. The front wheel driveshaft might have been disconnected to allow only the rear wheels spin. The car appears to be pretty light and get powered by an inline-six 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE engine, which might be a bit tuned. At least the exhaust has been cut off and the car now spits some nice flames while redlining.
