With all the incentives, tax avoiding and low fuel consumption, hybrids’ sales have dramatically increased and with a 7-figure sale number Toyota is the biggest green retailer.
The Japanese automaker makes more than half of the hybrid vehicles sold around the world, with US sales being boosted by the Prius and vehicles like the new Avalon hybrid which represented a quarter of the total model’s sales.
Globally, Toyota managed to sell over 5 million hybrids (Lexus included), which translates into 34 million tons of CO2 that didn’t end up into the atmosphere and that doesn’t resume only to the final product’s impact. Toyota also cuts the amount of energy needed to produce a vehicle by 22 percent, while also using returnable containers and using solar energy for some of its main plants.
