Half a million Corollas built in just four years is Toyota’s way of showing skeptics that hard work and success go hand in hand, especially in the automotive industry. And if this achievement isn’t that impressive for you, just take a closer look at the empire built by Toyota in Mississippi.
When you’re the fastest Toyota plant in the United States in terms of production accomplishment, there’s no doubt that a big chunk of credit for that goes to your workers. In fact, Toyota is doing just that, as Fred Volf, Toyota Mississippi vice-president of manufacturing praised his employees: “we are proud to produce the Corolla, and it wouldn’t have been accomplished without the 2,000 dedicated team members who support this operation.

Long story short, after producing nearly 180,000 Corollas in 2014, the Toyota plant in Mississippi set the bar at 500,000 units built since the plant opened in 2011. Of course, Toyota goes together with milestones like summer and June as the Japanese carmaker managed to sell over 10 million Corollas in the United States alone, figure overpassed only by the 40 million units sold worldwide since the vehicle’s debut in 1966.

And since we’re starting a number-and-facts spree, get ready for some more “Did you know?” stuff. For example, Toyota has partnered with more than 15 parts and materials suppliers in Mississippi, donated more than $700 million to non-profits across the United States and pumped more then $1.26 billion in the state’s economy.

Got you asking for more? Toyota and its suppliers created almost 3,700 jobs in the Mississippi area (365,000 U.S. jobs overall), while focusing on four environmental areas, according to Japanese officials: performance, biodiversity, renewable energy and education. So next time you find yourself discussing about the manufacturer that invented the controversial Prius, you'll have all the information you need to own your friends with plenty of valid arguments.
