Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV Joins Cincinnati PD

The American arm of Japanese carmaker Toyota announced it will provide two Highlander Hybrid SUVs for the Cincinnati Police Department. The cars will abandon their role as off-roaders and become K-9 units, fitted with all is required to accommodate bomb-sniffing dogs and counter-terrorism specialists.

The two new SUVs will join the existing ones in CPD's force, bringing the total number of Highlanders to eight. The latest additions are powered by 270 hp engines and provide all the space the PD needs for its canine force.

"We are extremely pleased that the Cincinnati Police Department trusts our Highlander Hybrids to the point of adding two more vehicles to their fleet,” Clyde Dyson, TMS Cincinnati Regional Sales Office manager said.

"Toyota has been a strong advocate of local law enforcement for many years, and we feel privileged to be helping them protect and serve the people of the greater Cincinnati area.

To celebrate the newcomers to the force and their role, the police department will host K-9 demonstrations for TMS employees at the company's office today. The dogs and their handlers will conduct simulated scenarios for dogs especially trained in bomb and drug detection, as well as standard patrol situations.

The PD's appreciation for Toyota even went as far as naming one of their best four-legged officers Tundra after Toyota's pick-up. How else would you say thanks to a company which donated $15,000 in support of the 004 United States Police Canine Regional Trials?
