We’ve recently driven the Toyota GT 86 and found a great, controllable, oversteering potential and where else could this be used better if not in racing? The GT 86 has recently claimed its first British motorsport victory, winning the third round of the Toyota Sprint Series at Barkston Heath on Sunday 12 August.
The car, which was driven by Adrian Smith of Fensport and co-driven by Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe, and was taking part in the event for the first time, won both its class and the event itself.
Smith managed to take the GT 86 round the 0.75-mile (1.21 km) Lincolnshire course in 54.55 seconds. The vehicle used the stock 2.0-liter boxer engine and six-speed manual gearbox, with the areas that received changes being the suspension, the wheels and the tires.
“Driving the GT86 for the first time on track was an absolute joy, the car has responded so well to our modifications and has proved to be a very capable and extremely well handling package. I am really looking forward to further development of the car and hope to repeat our initial success,” Smith said.
