Toyota GT 86 Turbo Drift Car Crashes at Debut

Since it was announced, the GT86 caused quite a stir with its blend of light weight, RWD Subaru-derived powertrain and affordability. With that combination of traits we were bound to see one used in professional drifting very soon after its launch.
At a recent D1 event in Odaiba, Japan it wasn’t, however, a good start as the driver carries too much speed into one of the corners and ends up crashing the rear part of the car into the guard-rails. Thankfully, another Toyota was close by, a truck, and it rescued the stranded race car from the crash site.

We’re hoping to see more GT86s and Subaru BRZs converted to various types of racing and seeing how they perform under different conditions. Until then, enjoy the video.
