Japanese automaker Toyota has announced the GT 86 TRD Griffon Project race car is scheduled to make its UK debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Built as a track-ready version of the already successful GT 86 sports coupe, the TRD Griffon Project will rev its engine at Goodwood one year after the road version was launched during the exact same event.
Modified by Toyota’s Racing Development division (TRD), the Griffon Project was enhanced by several lightweight carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body parts on the outside, while the cabin has received a sports bucket seat, new gear shift knob and Momo steering wheel, among other upgrades.
Further performance-related changes include an oil cooler for the engine, a TRD mono block brake caliper kit and TWS 18-inch wheels with Yokohama Advan tires. Despite the wide range of modifications applied, the GT 86 TRD is powered by the same 2.0-liter engine as the road car.
