After introducing the FT 86 Open concept at this year's Geneva Motor Show, Toyota canceled and relaunched the project a few times just for canceling it again now.
WhatCar reported that the Japanese automaker has delayed indefinitely the convertible project, rendering it unsuitable to enter production for 2014 or 2015 at least.
A Toyota spokesman declined to discuss further plans or reasons for canceling the project, but one possible cause setting it down is the weight. By cutting the GT 86's roof, the car will loose its rigidity and reinforcing structures will be added, making it weigh more and upset the sportscars' light-and-maneuverable ideology.
