Just as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series or the more affordable Clio Cup Series, the Toyota GT 86 could get its own race challenge.
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was chosen by Toyota to unveil their GT 86 Griffon for the first time in the UK. While it’s just a concept at the moment, a Toyota spokesman told Autocar that the Griffon may get its own cup series if the sportscar will enter production.

The Griffon makes a perfect track-day car for enthusiasts, being powered by the same 2-liter engine in the standard GT 86, but producing over 300 bhp. It is also stripped out of any comfort add ons and gizmos, also bearing bigger brakes, race tires, aero bodywork and a strengthened chassis.

Extensive testing of the Toyota GT 86 Griffon have been performed in Japan, where the car was pushed to the limit in order to beat a Ferrari lap time on an unnamed circuit. So far, the Griffon remains one or two seconds behind the Italian.
