Toyota GT 86 Gets the White and Black Paintjob from the Initial D Tofu Delivery AE86

Seemingly out of nowhere, this photo of a custom Toyota GT 86 popped up on all the JDM forums. It shows a heavily tuned version of everyone's favorite RWD toy with a rather special paintjob.

The AE86 Corolla probably wouldn't have gotten a revival model if it weren't for the famous Initial D series of Japanese manga and anime. It puts a drifting twist on the classic story of the underdog who works hard at what he loves.

Of course, the car that Takumi Fujiwara drove was never as cool as this particular GT 86, which has a gigantic adjustable front splitter, Rocket Bunny fenders and what looks like a trunk lip spoiler.

We haven't been able to figure out where the Toyota is located, and there's only one photo we found on the Street FX Facebook page. The steering wheel is on the left, and it's got a Toyota badge on the front, so the coupe is probably owned by somebody in Europe, but you never know.

Getting back to the Initial D part of the story, we have to mention that the classic Toyota is known by many as the Tofu Delivery AE86. Takumi, the hero of the story, develops his racing skills to be one of the fastest drivers in the Kanto prefecture while driving his dad's old Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. At the beginning of the manga, everybody learns the main protagonist has been delivering tofu for his father's shot every morning for the past five long, boring years.

One night, Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi's father, uses the white and black Toyota to defeat a much more powerful drift car. Shortly after that, Takumi asks his father if he can borrow the car for the weekend, but gets tricked into making his racing debut. That night, he easily manages to defeat his opponent using one of the more dangerous skills he picked up while delivering tofu for years. And that kind of sets the plot for the story.
