In a couple more months, Toyota GT 86 owners (or soon to become owners) will be able to log their circuit runs and further use them in the Gran Turismo 6 racing simulator. Why would you need this? Well, maybe some are afraid to push the limits on their cars and would like to see how fast can they tackle corners from the comfort of their couch without fearing to crash their ride.
Or maybe they want to go head to head with professional racedrivers who upload their phantom runs in Gran Turismo to learn their braking points and ideal lines.

Whatever you want to do with these times, Toyota Motor Corporation said their “Sports Drive Logger” will be released in Japan on June 2nd this year, costing around ¥91,800 ($885).

After mounting the logger to the GT 86’s controller area network (CAN) will be able to collect data regarding GPS position, accelerator pedal strokes, steering angles, brake operation signals, gear shiftings, engine and vehicle speed. The data will be then transformed in a simple format that can be downloaded on an USB memory stick.

With the USB containing all the data you’ll then go home where a new PS3 firmware update on April 2nd will allow it to import the date in the Gran Turismo 6 simulator, where you’ll be able to replay runs and race against the logged time.

However, the system won’t work for all racing circuits in the beginning and only the Fuji Speedway, Tsukuba 2000 Course and the Suzuka Circuits will be available in June. The automaker however said the list will expand in the near future.
