It appears that we might still get a convertible Toyota GT 86 somewhere in the future, despite the reports that were telling us about its cancellation.
Speaking to CarAdvice at the one-year anniversary of the 86’s Australian launch, Toyota GT 86 chief project engineer Tatsuya Tada claimed that the model is still under consideration.
Earlier reports were suggesting that the GT 86 open top won’t be a feasible combination due to increased manufacturing costs and the vehicle getting heavier and loosing performance. Facts that will spoil the whole GT 86 idea - very funny sportscar available at a reasonable price.
For the moment, the project appears to be put on pause while Toyota is trying to find a viable solution for it.
