Toyota and Subaru succeeded in creating a pure sportscar even though people are still stick on the numbers (only 200 horsepower). But most will agree that what the Toyobaru needs to be better is not more power, but less sheetmetal, namely not having a roof.
From the get-go, the project centered around the idea of reducing weight and lowering the center of gravity.A convertible would undoubtedly add some extra mass to the two-door, making the car less sporty.
But the Toyoya GT 86 and Subaru BRZ were designed from the start to be converted into drop-tops. That means only minimal bracing will be needed to stiffen the car back up. Both versions of the car and most like the Scion as well will be produced from a single Fuji Heavy Industries factory in the middle of Japan.
Power should still come from a responsive 2.0-liter flat-4 engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters.
