Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) today announced that from May 2013 it will start building the Yaris compact for export to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, with the annual export volume set to reach 25,000 units.
The move will see an Europe-built Toyota model being exported to North America for the first time in the company’s history. To be able to build the Yaris for customers in North America, TMMF needs to invest EUR8 million ($ million at the current exchange rates). Thus, the car will receive specific North American features, including a 1.5-liter petrol engine, automatic transmission, a restyled rear bumper and others. Toyota made it clear that only petrol version will make it to NA.

“We are very proud to have been selected as the main source of Yaris for North American markets,” said Makoto Sano, President of TMMF. “This is not only an endorsement of the quality of the cars built by our team members here at TMMF, but it’s also a significant new business opportunity for our factory and further strengthens TMMF’s position as an important exporter in France.”
