Probably the most important vehicle Toyota brought at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show is the new FCV hydrogen fuel car concept which was just unveiled there now for the first time in front of the general public.
Scheduled to enter production around 2015, the FCV uses hydrogen to produce the electricity it needs for powering its motor. Moreover, with a full tank of hydrogen, the car meets the daily kWh needed by an average Japanese home, being able to power it for about a week.
The shapes of the FCV concept evokes two key characteristics - the transformation of air into water as the system produces electric current and the powerful acceleration enabled by the electric motor. Emphasizing this, are the two huge air intakes at the front and the sleek side view conveying the air-to-water transformation.
The lightweight fuel cell stack and the two 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tanks mounted under the floor leave enough space for four passengers, while providing a power output density of 3 kW/L, more than twice of the current Toyota FCHV-adv.
