Toyota FCV Being Tested in Extreme Cold

Cold is one of the biggest threats regarding vehicle transportation as it affects the physical properties of any substance or material.

Take for example a set of summer tires - when the outside temperature falls bellow 7 degrees Celsius, the rubber contracts a lot an makes it fell almost like some sort of hard plastic, making your vehicle loose traction. Same goes for fluids like the engine coolant or lubricating oil.

The Toyota FCV mule here doesn’t need lubricating oil for the engine because it lacks one. Instead it has a fuel cell and batteries, which are also sensible to extreme cold, so benchmarking the system in sub-zero temperatures it’s a must.

That’s why Toyota is now in Canada with one of its FCV mules that is thoroughly tested at around minus 21 degrees Celsius. Check out the video bellow for more details.
