Offering about four times more hybrid/electric vehicles than other automaker, it is natural for Toyota to achieve top honors in any green list or guide. And the latest prize taken home by Toyota was the 2013 Green Car Guide, recently published by the Automobile Club of Souther California.
The overall green score on the list is held exclusively by Toyota for the first four places, with the number one being the 2013 RAV4 EV, followed by the Lexus GS 450h, Highlander Hybrid and Camry Hybrid.
"Toyota, partnering with Tesla, has produced an impressive full electric compact SUV that is the top scoring Green Car ever tested by the Auto Club's Automotive Research Center," said Automotive Research Center Manager and Chief Engineer Steve Mazor. "The RAV4 EV has excellent acceleration, zero tailpipe emissions and a real 100+ mile range, while maintaining roominess and flexibility."
Green Car Guide evaluates vehicles in several determined conditions, like EPA fuel economy, tailpipe emissions, handling, interior noise and cargo capacity. The cumulative scores are then divided by vehicle MSRP to determine cost per point, or “best value” rank.
