Toyota Displays Three Hybrid Vehicles in Melbourne

While the whole automotive world can't wait to see the models prepared for the Geneva Motor Show in March, Toyota fights to conquer every inch of the market in different countries across the globe. The Japanese automaker this week displays at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show three hybrid vehicles: the third-generation Prius -expected to arrive in Australia in less than five months-, the Australian version of Hybrid Camry Concept and the so-called futuristic 1/X prototype.

"The three Toyota hybrid cars unveiled today contain ground-breaking technologies and highlight innovative possibilities for the future of motoring. The Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle was conceived and produced in-house by Toyota Style Australia. It is a strong pointer to the hybrid Camry we will manufacture right here in Australia from early next year," the company's senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said.

"Its startling paintwork, dramatic lines and sporty appearance definitely convey the passion in our company to produce Australia's first hybrid car."

Speaking of the new-generation Toyota Prius, Buttner admitted the company expects high sales from this particular hybrid as it perfectly matches the current market demand. "The third-generation Prius is a quantum leap in technology that includes a remarkable double: improved performance while using less fuel," he said.

In addition, Toyota's official explained the 1/X concept incorporates top-notch environmentally-friendly features but refused to provide more details about a potential mass-production series.

"The 1/X concept is a vehicle that completely redefines what it means to be environmentally considerate. The name says it all: a car that weighs a fraction of others in its class today - and uses a fraction of the fuel," he concluded.
